Bio: Deputy District Attorney; private law practice; Judge, Alameda County Superior Court; Dean, California Judicial College; Board member, Alameda County Bar; Criminal Courts Bar; Alameda County Judges Association; California Judges Association; President, Queens Bench; President, USF Law Society; Chair, California Women Judges; National Association of Women Judges; Fellow, American Bar Foundation. Stephens College, University of California, University of San Francisco School of Law.


Other volunteer activities: Currently serves on boards of Early Music America, Berkeley Symphony, Cal Performances, San Francisco Early Music Society, Friends of Berkeley Festival (co-chair), San Francisco Early Music Society, Merola Opera Program. Past boards include Goodwill Industries, California Historical Society, Alameda County Mental Health Association, Vocare, George Wright Society, Oakland Symphony, Alameda county Criminal Justice Planning Board (4 years chair) and various state and regional commission and advisory boards in the fields of prison and jail management and construction, women's issues, mental health, securities regulation and consumer fraud.


Special Interests: Clubs include reading (crime and mystery, non-fiction) family history, hiking, traveling, Jane Austen Society, Berkeley Piano Club, Bellevue Club, Olympic Club, opera and cooking.


Instruments: Recorder, Guitar, currently taking piano lessons. Has played in amateur Renaissance and Baroque ensembles.


Favorite composition: 18th and 19th century popular songs of France, Great Britain, Germany, etc., e.g. "Le Temps de Cerise," music hall.
