When Handel composed his setting of Zadok the Priest for the coronation of King George II in 1727, he had no idea that it would end up being performed at every English coronation since. The Dettingen Te Deum, which Handel wrote to celebrate King George II’s dramatic victory over the French at Dettingen in 1743, is no less rousing and majestic.  PBO features the Philharmonia Chorale in these two pieces, as well as in beloved anthems written for the English Chapel Royal by Henry Purcell.  From the dramatic to the intimate, this truly is music fit for the king!
