Bio: Paul spent 25 of the first 28 years of his life on the East Coast, with a three-year detour to Ethiopia, where he served as a Peace Corps volunteer teaching English as a Second Language and (in his final year) ESL pedagogy. He moved to San Francisco in 1975 for a one-year judicial clerkship following graduation from law school, and never left. He has worked for the same private law firm, Heller Ehrman, LLP, since 1976, where he specializes in complex commercial litigation.


Other volunteer activities: Congregation Beth El of Berkeley: Board member (1990-1994; 1997-2005), Vice President (1997- 2005), Executive Committee (1997-2005), Chair of Capital Campaign (1998-2005); Patient Assistance Foundation, San Francisco: Board member (1996-2003), Advisory Board member (2003-present).
